Antique Native American Sioux Catlinite Pipestone
Rare and exceptional catlinite ceremonial smoking pipe circa late 19th century. The stem had raised bands throughout and a t-shaped bowl. Most likely Sioux / Lakota in origin. The mouthpiece has a very interesting octagonal design. Repair made to the t-bowl as it was previously broken from the stem in the past which is common for these types of bowls.
Overall great condition with only minor defects, see photos.
Catlinite, also called Pipestone, is the name given to the Redstone that was mined in the now protected quarries outside of Pipestone, Minnesota.
