Early Dog's Head Pommel Bowie Knife
Early dog’s head pommel Bowie knife. Unusual form with two fullers, possibly made form sword blade by a good cutler. Silver S shaped quillons and folded languette. Silver-throated mount with frog button, appears original. Second silver mount with hanger ring is decorated same as top mount. Throat does have missing stud for ring, which makes second mount much more likely. This is an interesting knife which thought to be American, early 19th Century. The dog’s head is in the same style as dog’s head silver-hilted American sword pommels circa 1780. This knife was part of the renowned David Petty Collection of London.
